Homiletics Acts 6:1-15

 Acts 6:1-15

Content:

  1.  Controversy between Grecian and Hebraic Jews on equal care of widows. 1
  2. The twelve decide to appoint seven to specifically care for physical needs so they focus on teaching. 2-4
  3. The group choose Stephen, full of faith and Holy Spirit as well as 6 others. 5
  4. Apostles prayed over and laid hands on the seven. 6
  5. The gospel spread, many priest became believers. 7
  6. Stephen full of grace and power did great things. 8
  7. Opposition rose up from religious leaders yet their arguments could not stand up to the Holy Spirit in Stephen. 9-10
  8. They persuaded men to make accusations of blasphemy against Stephen. 11
  9. Stirring up crowd, they seized Stephen and brought him to Sanhedrin. 12
  10. False witness testify against him. 13-14
  11. Expectant eyes on Stephen see face of an angel. 15
Divisions:
  1. Stephen full of grace and holy spirit chosen to serve among the believers. 1-7
  2. Stephens service to God and holy wisdom leads to persecution. 8-15
Subject Sentence:
  • Stephen, full of Holy Spirit, serves church and faces opposition.
Aim:
  • TCMT seek to live by Holy Spirit and His wisdom and grace, knowing opposition will come.
Application:
  1. What has God called me to in service to him by serving others?  Am I first following after Jesus so that I am filled with his grace and wisdom as I serve others?
  2. What am I afraid to do because of other's reactions?
