Computerless

So at the end of Spring Break I took in my computer for a tune up.  I was surprised to learn that what I thought was a "check up" appointment turned out to be the beginning of the end.  My awesome tech guy put the computer on "life support" in hopes of saving my data and possible reviving the machine.  I wrung my hands and waited for over a week before it was officially declared deceased.  My tech guy is hopeful that the majority of my data was recovered.  (Needless to say I have learned a lesson about "backing up" my data.)  I am anticipating the arrival of my new laptop (hopefully installed with my recovered data.).  After 2 weeks of being without a computer at home I am thinking it is time to "induce labor" so we can move on.  So if you are wondering why I have been silent it is not because I was without a crisis.  It was just that the crisis has left me technologically challenged.

Dad is home and making  progress, slow but progress none the less.  It has been decided that one of the factors in his present health struggles in his diabetes.  Mom is working on researching how to help him eat better for his health.  Now to keep him out of the cookie jar when she is not around.  Mom is the energizer bunny, continuing to just keep going and keep things afloat.

Peter is struggling through Algebra.  He hopes to get his learners permit next week.

Time to give mom back her computer - so until the newest arrival arrives, that's the news from me.

The end of this tour

Mom and dad's trip to the hospital ended Saturday evening.  Dad, having a crazy vertigo experience that led him to believe he was going to die, was invited to stay through yesterday.  A MRA and an MRI were done revealing that all in the brain looked fine.  The latest theory is that dad's dizziness and possibly even the stomach issues are related to a medicine he had recently started.  The nurse practitioner also suggested that they could be related  to anxiety and stress triggered by events of the past two months. Dad is going off of that particular medication to see if doing so helps.

Not only was the stay extended but they were "upgraded" when a cockroach was found scurrying about his room.  Evidentially it is hospital policy that bug siting's requires that the room be evacuated and cleaned.  The upside was that the new room was bigger and it had a really cool recliner that I enjoyed.

We are hoping that this week, Mom and Dad's travels are limited to the local shopping centers and restaurants.

Spring Break 2015

To Peter's great disappointment, we did not go to Florida. But Spring Break has not been a loss by any means.

My dear friend Christine, who saw me through my first very challenging year in Uganda, came from Colorado to spend a long Easter Weekend with us.

Me and Christine
Three of my college friends who live in the Atlanta area came up for an After East Brunch on Monday.  It was a day complete with chatter, food, crafts and Chocolate Bunny Fondue.

Melissa, Tonya, Leanne, and Me (L to R clockwise)
Making Paper Butterflies
My shed is clean and items are gathered for the Yard Sale mom and I plan to have later this month.

I have made arrangements for us to travel to Kansas for Larry's memorial the last weekend in May.

I mowed my grass and planted some begonias.

I got some needed sleep.

I have given Peter a hard time.

Peter is getting a crown - on his tooth - on Saturday.

I have school work and other task on the "to do list" that I may or may not complete

I am reading a cheezey book.  I might see a movie.

Who needs Florida!?!?!?!

Tour de Hospital

Well Mom is back on tour.  She and dad are checking out another room at our local hospital. They are not staying in one of the grander rooms however the hope is that this stay will be a short one.

Dad went home from the the rehab a week ago Tuesday.  He seemed to be doing well. Although he would not admit it, I think he was kind of missing the activity of the Rehab. Physically he is making good progress and confusion has been limited.  Sunday he started to not feel so great and began experiencing stomach issues.  By Wednesday morning he was so dizzy that he could not get out of bed. Mom called his doctor who told her to call 911 and have them take Dad to the ER.  So yesterday Mom and Dad did a 12 hour "day trip" at the ER before he was taken to a room last night.  They have been invited to spend another night to make sure Dad continues to improve before going home.  The best guess is that he had some stomach virus that resulted in a depletion of Potassium and Magnesium.  As those needed nutrients, IV liquids and antibiotics have been pumped in, Dad seems to be gaining. He has not shown the signs of confusion that he has experienced with other hospital stays. For this, we are very grateful.

This was an unexpected excursion yet not without some perks.  I am on Spring Break so have been available to pop in for visits.  Mom got to visit a neighbor who was recently injured and meet her friend Barbara's new grand baby who was born Tuesday. She also got to see a worker who was especially kind to her during Larry's last stay.

Hopefully the next stop on the itinerary is home Tomorrow with no returns to the hospital in the near future.
